Hello there! My name’s Valery and I blog about fashion, life and DIY over at I’m Getting There .com Last week, sweet Christian sent me on his behalf to the Belk Girl’s Night Out featuring Lisa Petty of DFW Style Daily and I’m soooo glad he did. I’ve been to a few fall fashion events and I have to say this one was my favorite so far! One of the best things about Belk is their pieces are high quality but they’re still affordable and easy to wear, especially for designer pieces. All of these trends are crazy versatile and can be mix and matched to create an amazing fall wardrobe.
Without further ado, here are the three trends they covered:
His and Hers
Menswear is so great, you guys. These pieces all made an appearance on the runway and I am so stoked about it because they can easily be worn together for a totally menswear inspired look, or on their own to just bring a touch of masculinity to an everyday outfit. If you’re looking to work some His and Hers into your fall wardrobe, be on the hunt for cardigans, oxford shoes, ties, suiting/pinstripes, fedoras, varsity sweaters and jackets, exposed socks (LOVING this right now, you guys…and anyone can afford a few pairs of socks!), tartan and bow ties.
This trend is all about taking something simple but adding interest and integrity to it, whether that means more structure, unexpected silhouettes or mixing basics in a unique way. Think sheath dresses with a fur jacket and the return of the turtleneck.
This last one is my personal favorite.
On my blog you will see that I LOVE mixing in edgy pieces into my everyday outfits (even work clothes) and that’s what Rebel Rebel is all about. An easy way to get in on this? Leather leather and more leather. Thank goodness faux leather is back in full force and readily available so if you don’t have the funds (or if you don’t wear real leather for personal reasons), you can still jump on this trend! Don’t forget your red lipstick and killer accessories.
Lisa Petty, editor-in-chief of DFW Style Daily was the PERFECT hostess for this event, asking Arlene Goldstein, vice president of trend merchandising and fashion direction for Belk all the right questions. Arlene even gave a few additional pieces of advice that I wanted to pass along to you guys.
1. Lace isn’t going anywhere. She’s already hunting for items for Fall 2015 and she said it’s still out there so hang onto those lace pieces for sure.
2. If you’re wary of print mixing, wear at least one color in common to kind of tie it together. You can also mix a small pattern with a large one to maintain balance.
3. Red is coming early this year, so don’t wait until the holidays to start pulling out those pretty red dresses, heels, tops and pants.
That’s about it for now! I know I’m already working on incorporating all of these trends into my Fall wardrobe, so be on the lookout for those on my blog soon. Thanks again to the wonderful Christian for letting me go in his place…muah!
